Russell Latapy has found a new left back who has fitted in perfectly in his new role for the past six matches. Nineteen-year old Joevin Jones of W Connection made his debut for T&T in a 3-0 loss to Panama recently and has played in all five matches since then.
He gave a polished performance in the 1-0 loss to Jamaica on Sunday. “I’m working hard and I’m enjoying wearing the national shirt. I want to play all the matches,” Jones said Sunday. Jones is the son of ex-Strike Squad member Kelvin Jones.
“I got my talent from my father. I’ve been playing football for as long as I could remember and he’s always giving me some advice. I just try to do things simple.
Once you do the right things, the game will be easier,” he added. “I want to play overseas some day and I’m working hard towards that. My favourite team is Manchester United but I could make a move to another club if the opportunity comes up, once it helps me develop myself better as a player.
“Right now I am working on keeping my place in the team for the Digicel Cup. We have been doing well and the work is paying off. We have to keep focussed and work together as a team. That way, we can become a better team especially for the World Cup qualifiers for 2014,” Jones added.
