Rodrigo Kenton, the man who was at the helm of the Costa Rica National Team for Russell Latapy’s first match as head coach of T&T, was in Trinidad this week serving as a Fifa Grassroots instructor to several coaches from the region in a week long seminar at the D Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence. At the time, Kenton had Costa Rica on a winning streak before the team went into a bad patch and he was eventually replaced by Rene Simoes. Costa Rica went into the playoffs but lost out to Uruguay. Kenton described the 3-2 win at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on June 6, 2009 “as one of the best performances I have ever seen from a Trinidad team against Costa Rica.” Kenton, with a couple offers knocking on the door from other Central American national teams, said he hoped to see T&T rise out of its current misery.

He advised Latapy to keep pressing on inspite of what may occur over the next few weeks. “Football is about results. We know that when you are in a coach’s position that’s all they look at. But the most important thing is that you keep going ahead because better times will come and there will be better results at some stage. “And I will tell any coach including yours  that it’s all part of the game,” Kenton said on Friday. “In my position now I’m an observer. I wish success for Trinidad and Tobago and I hope they make good decisions decision and hopefully they can qualify for Brazil. We all want that from the region. Hopefully they can pick up again and move on to better times.”
