Under fire Soca Warriors coach, Russell Latapy has submitted his technical report on the failed Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals in Martinique to the T&T Football Federation.
According to a source close to the T&TFF, Latapy, team manager David Muhammad and Technical Advisor Lincoln “Tiger” Phillips submitted their technical reports to the T&TFF on Friday. In the reports, the three men, while not making excuses for the national team’s failure in Martinique, cited a number of situations that contributed to the poor display.
The reports are to be discussed by the Federations’s executive, headed by president Oliver Camps and its special advisor, Fifa vice-president and Concacaf boss, Jack Warner at a meeting tomorrow where a decision on the future of Latapy is expected to be determined.
The meeting will be held at the federation’s headquarters, Dundonald Street, Port-of-Spain. Reports indicate that no fewer than 12 international coaches, none of which are local have applied for the job to coach the Soca Warriors.
Most of the applications have come in from Brazil and Holland. Surprisingly, no English coaches have applied for the post. Latapy’s tenure has come under heavy criticism after T&T’s dismal showing at the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals, in Martinique earlier this month where it failed to reach the semifinal, and also missed out on qualifying for the Concacaf Gold Cup in the USA next year.
His record as coach is nine wins from 23 matches with 11 defeats and three draws. Contacted for comment, Muhammad confirmed he had submitted his report on Friday.
In a related matter, members of the national team are expected to collect their salaries for the past 13 matches by Friday. This was stated in a radio interview on Power 102 Radio on Sunday by Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Anil Roberts from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he was attending the tenth Fina World Short Course Swimming Championship.
