Yorke in charity match.Which national football team during the past decades was the best? Although almost all of the players have past their best, they will try to prove this point on Sunday when former national players compete to be “Champion of the Decades” at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from noon.

Turning out for the showdown will be midfielder Leroy de Leon, whom many has dubbed the best footballer ever to grace the fields in T&T.

Many of the infamous “Strike Squad” players will also be on show, including captain Clayton Morris, Leonson Lewis, Marlon Morris, Dexter Francis, Floyd Lawrence, Philbert Jones, Marvin Faustin, Brian Williams, Hutson Charles, Kerry Jameson and Earl Carter.

Former national coach, Russell Latapy and Dwight Yorke along with Anthony Rougier, Aurtis Whitley, Densill Theobald, Cyd Gray, Brent Sancho, Anthony Wolfe, Dennis Lawrence, Stern John and Clayton Ince are expected in the “Soca Warriors” line-up.

Several of the top players who represented T&T in the match against Haiti in 1973, when just missing out on qualification to the World Cup are expected to turn out.

They include captain Selwyn Murren, Steve David, Warren Archibald, Kelvin Barclay, Raymond Roberts, Jan Steadman, Lawrence Rondon, Selris Figaro, Wilfred Cave, Leo Brewster, George Romano and Winston Phillips. Players are to contact Steve David (788-6955) or Clayton Morris (756-5754).
