Smartman - Anil Roberts. Now that a High Court judge has stated that the financial records of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) are totally unacceptable, I await the response of the Government and the Ministry of Sport, especially with regard to funding for this organisation.

The People's Partnership came to power on a wave of anti-corruption sentiment and boasted that they would not tolerate fraud and corruption in any form.

On top of that, the Ministry of Sport has openly criticised sporting organisations for poor accounting, including the Basketball Federation and the Swimming Association.

In fact, the Minister refused to provide funding for these groups until the financial records were put in order.

So it will be interesting to see if the same Ministry will now give taxpayers' money to the TTFF despite their "totally unacceptable accounts".

The public is waiting to see if the Government will stick to its principles of transparency and accountability, or if it will find an excuse to give funding to the TTFF. This is another test for the Prime Minister herself since a senior Cabinet minister is closely involved in the matter.

Does she have the courage to insist that there be no more funding for the TTFF until a full accounting is given for the money received for the 2006 World Cup?

Millions of dollars passed through the TTFF during the last World Cup campaign and it is important for the public to get full disclosure of how it was spent and whether any money was siphoned off into private accounts.

Let us hope it is not a case of "yesterday was yesterday and today is today"!
