After scoring his 70th international goal for T&T, Stern John applauded some of the home-based players for their performance in last Sunday’s 3-0 victory over India at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

Even though India may not be considered the best of opponents, John felt they were decent opposition and the T&T players were up to the task.

“We won 3-0 but we had to be good enough to score three goals on this India team and our boys did well. We kept ourselves in order and we were disciplined and did most of the things right,” John said.

“It’s a good feeling to score again for the country but we have bigger goals to achieve and if I can keep on contributing while fit and injury free then that’s where my focus lies.

Overall I think it’s good for the local players to be stepping up and ensuring the coach has a wider pool to select from.

We know the overseas players will be considered because of the level of football they’re involved in every week but I really think the local boys have done well and they must try to keep lifting their standard,” John added.
