Midfielder Kwame Wiltshire’s move to Adam Construction’s, San Juan Jabloteh is expected to produce benefits for both parties.
The former El Dorado Secondary Comprehensive player is eager to make a return to the national team and top flight football in Trinidad and Tobago.
Jabloteh have recruited a number of players for the 2011-2012 football season including veteran midfielder Marvin Oliver.
Earl Carter, one of four TT goalkeepers during the 1989 “Strike Squad” era, was also called in as a replacement for former coach Terry Fenwick. Wiltshire is the latest to join the San Juan-based team and he told Newsday he wants to put on a show.
He did not feature in his team’s opening game against Police on Saturday as it was postponed due to the current state of emergency.
The 29-year-old is keen, however, to make his debut for a team he considers one of the best in the league.
“I am happy to have signed for Jabloteh because they are a very competitive team and if I want to play for the “Soca Warriors” I think this is the ideal channel for me to go through.”
Wiltshire promises to add stability and creativity in the midfield where he will line up alongside Oliver.
He told Newsday that he is currently in his best form ever.
“I am fitter and stronger than I have ever been in my life and I think it will be a tremendous benefit to Jabloteh.”
Meanwhile coach Earl Carter said that he will be expecting a lot from Wiltshire this season. “He is a good player. He is one of those players that likes to take charge of the game.....He is the organiser in the team.”
However, he (Carter) is facing challenges in getting Wiltshire to play both an attacking and defensive role.
“Wiltshire was an extremely good attacking player in the past, but he has suddenly decided to drop back and play more defensive. I’m not sure what has caused that but I think it must be because of his age.
Most attacking players do it. Look at Dwight Yorke when he played for Trinidad and Tobago during the 2006 World Cup campaign. He was nothing like the Yorke we knew him as at Manchester United and Aston Villa, but it was understood.”
Carter feels that if he can get Wiltshire to play as the effective utility player that he wants him to play this season, Jabloteh can have a successful season, as Oliver has already confirmed himself as an outright attacking midfielder.”
