Giant-killers Debe High captured the BGTT Girls’ InterCol title on Thursday, when it beat Signal Hill Secondary 2-0 in the final at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet.
Skippered by national Under-17 captain, Mariah Shade, Debe put Signal Hill under pressure from early by launching several dangerous attacks.

The Signal Hill players largely relied on their size and speed, but lacked the skill of their opponents, whose other national U-17 player, Karen Forbes combined with Shade to shut-out most of the attacks.

The two teams had an equal share of ball possession, with the Tobagonians, having a few runaway chances early on, which were broken up by Forbes and Shade.

Debe, the National Secondary Schoolgirls League champion team, broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net through national U-17 player, Kayla Taylor.

Keeping a cool head, which she didn’t in an earlier chance, Taylor easily beat her marker to slip the ball past the Tobago custodian.

After coming out of the break trailing by a goal, the Tobago girls pressed for the equaliser before a packed home crowd. But Elizabeth Ng Wai dashed their hopes, as she made it 2-0 for Debe in the 51st minute.

The home team never gave up though, and Debe was forced to defend in the final minutes of the match.
