Zonal champions El Dorado East Secondary successfully closed the gap between itself and Arima North to two points after sealing a 3-1 come-from-behind away win over Toco Secondary in a rescheduled Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) East Zone championship match, yesterday.
El Dorado, also known as “Blue Thunder”, well and truly kept its zonal title challenge alive, with its fifth win in eight matches, played at Toco Ground.
However, it was Toco which took a surprise lead in the eighth minute after Shaquille Edwards converted a spot kick, but it was short lived as El Dorado East’s top forward Shaquille Bertrand popped up with yet another important goal just four minutes later.
El Dorado would then find a lead in the 25th minute, with Bertrand again on target, as the best team in the East for 2011 went into the half with a 2-1 lead. In the 70th minute, El Dorado scored an insurance goal to go 3-1 up, via an effort from Darion De Matas, for his first of the campaign.
The result saw El Dorado leapfrog San Juan North for second spot in the seven-team table, while Toco remains on one point after seven matches. El Dorado East will enjoy a midweek rest, while Toco will host mid-table St Augustine, at Toco Ground, tomorrow.
