THE CENTRAL Zone of the BGTT/First Citizens-sponsored Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Championship Division will be determined today.

Defending champions Carapichaima and Chaguanas are the teams battling for the top spot, and a chance to play in next week’s Big Five competition.

Carapichaima have a tally of 21 points from nine games, while Chaguanas are next on 20, also from nine games. Today Carapichaima will be visiting Couva while Chaguanas will be travelling to Tabaquite.

Chaguanas, due to an inferior goal difference to Carapichaima, must get full points against third-placed Tabaquite, to have a chance of claiming the crown, but Carapichaima can retain their title with full points against the inconsistent Couva.

The other match of the Zone will feature hosts Presentation Chaguanas against Gasparillo.

The only other Zone which have not been decided is the Tobago Zone. Leaders and reigning champs Scarborough will entertain Mason Hall while Roxborough will visit Signal Hill.

St Anthony’s retained the North Zone trophy by virtue of a 0-0 draw against Fatima. The champs are on a bye today, but the other teams will be jostling for final positions, with the Zonal Intercol tournament due to commence on November 7.

Second-placed Mucurapo will visit the struggling Diego Martin, while third- placed Fatima will entertain cellar-placed Trinity and QRC will host their perennial arch-rivals St Mary’s.

Arima can complete their successful campaign in the East Zone with victory against dethroned champs El Dorado East at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

Toco will be travelling to Trincity to meet Trinity East while San Juan will be visiting El Dorado West.

Presentation San Fernando can complete a 100-percent record in the South Zone with full points against Pleasantville at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Dethroned champs Shiva Boys will be visiting St Benedict’s at La Romain while Princes Town will be hosting the hapless Moruga. Today’s matches will all begin at 3.45 pm.
