A hat-trick from Keshawn Hunte paced North Zone leaders Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive to a 6-2 thrashing of St Mary’s College, in their seventh round clash in the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League at Fatima grounds, yesterday.

The win assured “Compre” kept top of the table status with 18 points, three ahead of three-time defending zonal champions St Anthony’s College.

The “Westmoorings Tigers” got a goal each from Akil De Freitas, Yohance Marshall and Kareem Freitas in their 3-1 triumph at home to Queen’s Royal College.

At Fatima, Atullah Guerra got Mucurapo off to a fast start, when he got the opener in the 12th minute beating from close up.

Cyrano Glenn should have extended the lead six minutes later, but he side-footed overbar from six yards from a right side Khaleem Highland cross.

Highland showed Glenn how its done, in the 24th minute, when he connected sweetly with a left side cross and unleashed a powerful right foot volley in mid-air that looped over goalkeeper Amoroso and into the far corner of the net.

St Mary’s pinned in their own-quarter for most of the opening period, reduced the deficit in style with a scorcher of a free-kick which flew past “Compre” custodian, Nigel Thomas, like a rocket into the top right hand corner of the net in the 31st minute.

Within two minutes Hunte reclaimed a two-goal cushion for the zonal leaders (3-1), beating Amoroso with a low left footed drive to his right from the 18-yard-box.

Despite creating a few more chance, Mucurapo failed to add to its tally as the first-half came to a halt in a heavy shower.

Five minutes into the second-half, Hunte got his second of the match and “Compre” fourth, as his left footed shot went in on the near post off the finger tips of Amorose.

And four minutes later, the nimble Hunte pounced on a fumbled by goalkeeper Amoroso to tap into an open net for a 5-1 victory. To add to the “Saints” problems, Amoroso picked up a knock to his jaw and had to be replaced by substitute goalkeeper Kendall Latchman.

Like his predecessor, Latchman also had to pick the ball out from the net, in the 70th minute after Akim Armstrong volleyed home from a Highland feed.

Armstrong should have added to his tally, on at least two occasions, instead it was Aldo Hope who got a second for the beaten-up “Saints” in the last five minutes.
