St Benedict’s College and St Anthony’s College both got narrow 2-1 wins to cement their places in the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football Premier Division League “Big-Five” competition, yesterday.

At Queen’s Royal College Ground, St Clair, St Benedict’s got strikes from Shaquille Dunkley and Taryll Coutou to cancel out Demitri Dunkley’s item for the Royalians.

With the win, St Benedict’s ended with 28 points from its 14 match schedule, to slip ahead of Presentation College of San Fernando, which fell to ten-man St Anthony’s College, 2-1 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

The “Westmooring Tigers”, last year’s League and Big-Four runner-up, went into the match needing nothing less than a win to qualify.

However, it was Presentation College of San Fernando which took an early lead, through Nate Brooks in the fifth minute.

Ten minutes later, St Anthony’s College got back on level terms through Haile Beckles but midway through the second-half the visitors suffered a blow when Brent Noel was shown a second yellow-card by referee Larry Campbell.

But despite, being down a man, St Anthony’s dug deep and on one of their breaks got the go-ahead item from Adriel Kerr in the 72nd minute after which they defended doggedly to grab all three points and the fourth and final “Big-Four” spot.

At the other end of the table, Carapichaima East and Speyside joined Trinity College East as the relegated teams after defeats at the hands of St Augustine, 3-2 and champion Naparima College, 4-1.
