COACH of Shiva Boys Hindu College Hayden Ryan said he is satisfied with his team’s start in the Shell/ First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) this season, but knows his job is to keep the players focused.

Shiva are on top of the standings after the first two rounds in the Premiership after winning their opening two matches. Shiva will travel to San Juan today where they will face San Juan North Secondary at the latter’s school ground from 3.40 pm.

Ryan stated, “I am happy with the start though every opportunity we get to run out I can see loose ends to be tied.

In spite of being happy with what I am seeing there are some things we still need to work on and fix.” Ryan added that his job is to ensure his players do not get complacent.

“That is my job (to make sure they don’t get complacent). My job is to let them know the reality of the tournament.” The Shiva Boys coach praised the staff who prepared the players before this season.

“I must give kudos to the staff that was there before who had prepared these players as Under-16 and Under-17 players, and now they are emerging to be young talents and young stars. It is a bunch of talented guys and it is just to steer the ship.” National footballer Levi Garcia is a former Shiva Boys player and Ryan said the players are inspired by his success, including Garcia’s brother Judah who is a midfielder on the team.

Ryan said Levi Garcia is still considered part of the team and once he is in Trinidad he attends Shiva Boys matches.
