St Mary’s stun QRC in SSFL derby

St Mary’s College conquered their fiercest rivals, Queen’s Royal College, when they came away with a 2-1 win in their Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) encounter yesterday afternoon.
Two comical long-range free kicks were the highlight of the contest which may not have lived up to its “classic” billing, but was entertaining, nonetheless.
The “Saints” were able to get the odd goal in the match when Tyrese Spicer scored with a low firm finish in the first half.
Both teams came into the match without a win for the season, and the hosts went on to take an early lead before most fans had even settled into their seats.
Daniel Conocchiari was felled out on the right, and up stepped Trey Lamont, who swung an inswinger with his left foot that beat QRC custodian Kern Thomas on the line to send the home team into an early lead.
Sport Minister Darryl Smith, who played for CIC a little over two decades ago, was one of the high profile old boys present.
