Defending champions, Shiva Boys Hindu College endured a difficult day on and off the football field, but at the end of it all, the southerners still lead the 16-team Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division table on goal-difference from southern rivals, Presentation College of San Fernando and Naparima College, with all three teams on 13 points after six matches.

Having started the day on maximum 15 points from five matches, Shiva Boys was first informed that the SSFL Disciplinary Committee (DC) delibrating on a protest against it. After hearing evidence presented in the matter regarding the eligibility of its player Kierron Mason in the match against Naparima on September 9, 2017 the DC decided that the player was ineligible to represent the school as a player in that game, and therefore the result (2-1 to Shiva Boys) was overturned and Naparima College was award the win (3 points & 3 goals).

The letter informed Shiva Boys that the school had the rights to appeal, and it must be done in writing within seventy-two (72) hours of receipt of the email to the Appeals Committee” accompanied by a fee of $1,000.

Such fee shall be refunded if the appeal is successful while pending the hearing of such an appeal, the decision stands.

The Hayden Ryan-coach Shiva Boys then had a chance to take out their anger on the playing field against National Inter-Col champions San Juan North Secondary, however, both teams failed to find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw at San Juan North’s Bourg Mulatresse Ground.

With the points deduction from the protest and then the point earned in a drawn match, Shiva Boys improved to 13 points, the same as Presentation College, who then wasted a chance to open a cushion in a 2-1 loss to Naparima College at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Presentation which began the afternoon top of the table after Shiva’s protest defeat took the lead as early as the second minute through national Under-20 player Jordan Riley, but Judah St Louis then got “Naps” level with the first of two well struck free-kicks before he netted from dead-ball in the 37th for a 2-1 half-time lead after which his team held on for the win.

Taking full advantage at the confusion at the top of the standings were Fatima College, St Anthony’s College, Trinity College East, St Augustine Secondary and Carapichaima East, who all won.
