Naparima College is the new leader of the Premier Division in the Shell/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League after edging San Juan North, 1-0, when the teams met at Lewis Street in San Fernando, yesterday evening.

Judah St Louis netted the winner, a penalty in the second minute, to move his team to the top of the 16-team standings with 26 points from 11 matches, earning eight wins, two draws and suffering one loss.

“Naps” move to the head was part due to previous leader Presentation College falling to a 3-0 loss to defending champion Shiva Boys Hindu College at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Mareballa. After a goalless first half, Simeon De Bourgh got Shiva’s first item in the 55th minute. Some 20 minutes later, Yohannes Richardson put in his team’s second goal in 75th before Junior Asson sealed the victory in the 93rd.

Presentation slipped to second place with 25 points from 10 matches, followed by St Anthony’s College with 24, Shiva Boys and San Juan remain in fourth and fifth places with 23 and 18 points, respectively.

Queen’s Royal College (QRC) was the only other team that made some movement upwards on the table, jumping from the cellar spot to 14th place after comfortably beating St Benedicts, 4-1 thanks to a double from Miguel Williams.

He scored QRC’s opening goal in the 18th and later added another in the 54th. Joining him on the scoresheet were Kalev Kiel (20th) and John-Paul Rochford (76th).

In other matches, St Anthony’s College made full use of its home field advantage, grabbing a narrow 3-2 win over Trinity East at Morne Coco Road, Westmoorings; St Mary’s was held to a 3-3 draw by Trinity Moka at Serpentine Road in St Clair; host Carapichaima East defeated Fyzabad, 2-1; and Fatima edged home team St Augustine at Warren Street.

Naparima College made a quick start to their game and went ahead through Juda St Louis who slotted home a penalty kick in the second minute of the game.

San Juan North had visited the southerners as the only team undefeated thus far in the tournament, however, they left with nothing as Naps held on to the lead and claimed all three points. Naps now lead the standings with 26 points after 11 games while San Juan North remain in fifth with 18 points. Trinity East traveled to St Anthony’s where they lost 3-2 as the “Westmoorings Tigers” held on to third position with 24 points.
