St Anthony’s and St Mary’s both advanced to the Coca Cola Secondary Schools Intercol north zonal final with identical results yesterday.
At St Mary’s Ground, St Anthony’s defeated Queen’s Royal College (QRC) 2-1. A penalty from Tyrese Bailey and Che Benny gave St Anthony’s a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Marc Robertson pulled a goal back for QRC early in the second half, but St Anthony’s held on for the win.
At Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, St Mary’s got past Fatima 2-1. Fatima opened the scoring in the 32nd minute through Justin Araujo-Wilson. Tyrese Spicer levelled the match for St Mary’s in the 38th minute, before Gabriel Nanton found the winner in the 79th. It was a turnaround by St Mary’s who lost to Fatima 5-1 during the league competition.
There was a stunning upset in the east as Valencia Secondary beat Trinity College East in zonal semifinal action at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.
Trinity East, who played in the premier division league competition this season, were favourites to defeat newly promoted Valencia who proved no pushovers.
Valencia took the lead in the 35th minute through Keegan Farrier, before Nickel Orr equalised just before halftime with a 44th minute item. The match had to be decided with a penalty shootout after regulation time ended 1-1. Valenica prevailed 5-4 on penalties and will face San Juan North in the east zone final.
In the second match of the double header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, San Juan North got past St Augustine Secondary 3-0. After a goalless first half, Renaldo Boyce opened the scoring in the 47th minute before Brandon Semper doubled San Juan’s advantage with a 51st minute goal. Boyce rounded off the scoring with an injury time strike.
In the Tobago zone semifinals, Speyside High defeated Goodwood Secondary 2-0, while Signal Hill edged Bishop’s High 1-0.
