Fatima College are Under-14 and Under-16 Coca Cola InterCol national champions, following victories over St Augustine Secondary and Chaguanas North Secondary on Monday and Saturday respectively.

In the under 14 national InterCol final, the scores were level at 1-1 after regulation, and extra time, which meant a penalty shoot-out decided the encounter.

The ensuing shoot-out ended in a sudden death 6-5 win for Fatima, after both teams scored its first five penalty kicks.

The under 16 national InterCol final, conversely, did not serve up the suspense which the under 14 final did, as Zachary Welch’s early goal awarded Fatima College a 1 nil win over Chaguanas North Secondary.

It was a close encounter between the two teams, but under-15 national star player Welch’s well-placed freekick in the 28th minute proved to be the difference in the definitive match.

The win signified a positive moment in what was a challenging season for the under 16 unit, as head coach Hayden Martin returned to his team to guide it to victory, after missing the north zone InterCol final and the national InterCol semi-final due to personal commitments.
