A MEMBER of the 2018 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) triple-crown champions Naparima team is recovering after being shot in Claxton Bay on Saturday.
The injured player was a key part of the Naparima team that won the SSFL Premier Division, the South Zone Intercol and the National Intercol crowns.
A post on the SSFL Facebook page said, “He was reportedly shot in his arm and leg. Our prayers are with him and his family.”
The Facebook post continued, “(The named footballer) was supposed to line up with the South/Central team in (Sunday’s) SSFL/Field of Dreams All Star match at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium which North/East/Tobago won on penalty kicks.”
A member of the Naparima technical staff said yesterday that the injured footballer “is recovering and improving at this time.”
SSFL president William Wallace was unaware of the shooting.
“I haven’t heard about the incident at all,” said Wallace. “I was in the TTFA AGM whole day (on Sunday).”
