It rained goals in the North Zone of the Coca Cola InterCol on Monday at the Hasely Crawford, Mucurapo, with Premiership strugglers Malick Secondary hammering Diego Martin North Secondary 13-0. And in another game, demoted premier division campaigners Trinity Moka made a bold statement for the zone's InterCol title by clobbering St Francis College 3-0.
In the end, however, the tally showed 17 goals scored in two matches. Malick's Zion Carpette, Nickel Alexander and Jabari Williams all scored hat-tricks in the win to set up a mouth-watering contest with Trinity Moka on Thursday at St Mary's College Ground in St Clair.
The trio has scored more than three-quarter of their school's goals this season despite their 12-place finish.
Yesterday coach Anthony Barthomolmew sent a warning to his opponents who defeated them in the premiership season, that they should not be complacent when the teams meet in the InterCol.
"The players entered the Premier Division an inexperienced bunch, but have now gotten the experience they needed. We are seriously going after the InterCol title and we believe we can do it. We are ready now," Bartholomew said.
He added, "We have even changed our formation from 5:3:2 to 4:3:3 to allow the attackers the room and chance to express themselves and score goals."
In the other game, Trinity Moka got goals from Jardel Mitchell, Jesus Phillip and Josiah Superville in their 3-0 triumph of St Francis College. Manager Shawn Lyndsay said he team will be prepared for Malick when the time comes, saying football is played on the day. "For sure we will not be underestimating any team and we will be going out to play."
