JAVED MOHAMMED and Adisa Connell scored a goal each for Naparima as they easily got past Vessigny 2-0 in the South Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League yesterday at the Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

The win saw the former National InterCol winners (Naparima) successfully defending the zonal crown they won last year.

Mohammed gave “Naps” the lead just before the stroke of half time, notching his fourth goal of the season in the 45th minute. Connell then sealed the victory with his 75th-minute strike.

Princes Town, who were hot on the heels of the table-toppers, were also victorious yesterday, coming back from a one-goal deficit to beat Fyzabad 2-1 in Princes Town.

After Tuesday’s round of matches, the “Green Hornets” sat just one point behind the leaders. They were hoping for Vessigny to at least hold “Naps”, as this would have given them a chance to pip the champions for the title. They will now have to wait until next year to make the title their own.

Anton Predie put Fyzabad ahead in the 14th minute, which was the only goal scored in the first half. The “Green Hornets” got back into the game in 66th minute, with Keron Neptune levelling the score. Ryan Forbes then got the winner five minutes from the end (85th).
