Michael Brown scored either side of the interval to lead San Juan Senior Comprehensive into the semifinals of the 2004 RBTT Inter-Col East Zone competition, with a 3-1 whipping of Barataria Senior Comprehensive.


The “Bourg Mulatresse” Boys will meet Hillview College next Tuesday, in the semifinal San Juan took the lead in the 15th minute, through a stroke of luck, as Barataria defender Jonathan Romain headed into his own goal in an attempt to clear off the line.

The match was played at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima, yesterday.

Brown extended his team’s lead in the 35th minute, when his low left foot drive from just outside the 18-yard box, beat the Barataria goalkeeper Anil Joseph.

He got his second in the 61st minute.

With the end drawing closer by the minute, Barataria threw everything at the San Juan defence and was able to net a consolation item in the 88th minute through John Belgrave, who fired through a crowd of players. It was too late for his team.

Hillview College came from behind to get the better of St George’s College, 4-3 on penalty-kicks, after the teams had played to a 2-2 score at the end of extra-time, following a 1-1 regulation time score.

Michael De Freitas scored mid-way through the first-half to give St George’s a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes after the resumption Ricardo Alleyne tied up the scores for Hillview.

Stefan George handed Hillview the lead the in the first period of extra-time, only for Dominic Hutchinson to convert a penalty for St George’s to leveled the scores at 2-2, sending the match into the dreaded penalty kicks.

Yannick Pilgrim got St George’s off to a good start in the shoot-out, while Hillview’s captain Fernando Thomas missed his effort, not once, but twice after it was ordered re-taken.

Cleavon Brathwaite then scored St George’s second attempt, while Alleyne scored to get Hillview on the board at 1-2 on kicks.

Hutchinson and Jamal Lewis then missed their attempts for St George’s, while George, and Yohance Matamorow scored for Hillview to lead 3-2 and within reach of the semifinal.

Needing to score to keep his team’s hope alive, Jarel Diaz found the target for St George’s, but Keagan Rampersad also held his nerve to score Hillview’s fifth and final attempt for a 4-3 score-line.

ST GEORGE’S 2 (Michael De Freitas, Dominic Hutchinson) vs HILLVIEW 2 (Ricrado Alleyne, Stefan George). Hillview won 4-3 on penalty-kicks.
