St Anthony's College midfielder Kevon Neaves was named the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Player of the Year last evening at the awards ceremony for the 2004 season at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre in Couva.

The crafty "Tigers" playmaker, who was instrumental in the Westmoorings school's third successive National Intercol title last November, was given the honour from the top five players in the Championship Division, including teammate, defender Yohance Marshall, Ataullah Guerra of Mucurapo Senior Comprehensive, Hayden Tinto (Malick Senior Comprehensive) and Shane Calderon (St Augustine Senior Comprehensive).

Among the girls, Malick's Anastacia Prescott took the top honour for what was another impressive season for her team, which took both the BG T&T SSFL League and RBTT Intercol titles for the third consecutive year.

The various teams benefitted from the most prizemoney given out for the competitions to date, a total take of $127,000.

The top schools also received their prizes for the different titles won in the 2004 competition, including St Anthony's and Malick for the boys and girls Intercol titles, respectively; St Augustine Senior for the BG T&T "Big Five" title; and the Malick Girls for yet another league win.

In the RBTT Rhythm competition, the prize for the Best Chant went to St Augustine Senior Secondary, while Intercol runners-up Vessigny Antilles were recognised for the Best Flag. San Juan Senior Secondary Comprehensive got the prize for the Most Original Instrument; Mucurapo were close winners of the Best Cheerleading Routine; and the new category, Best Sweet Sounding Rhythm, went to Fatima College.
