ST AUGUSTINE FC managed to come from behind to defeat Malvern 2-1 in a Trinidad and Tobago Women’s League Football (TT WoLF) First Division game at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain on Sunday.

It was a heated encounter mixed with debatable decisions from the officials which may have left the “girls in green” wondering if the football gods were against them on the day. But their determination showed in the end with an inspired second half showing.

The first half saw many chances for St Augustine, however it was Malvern that managed to net first, in the 20th minute.

St Augustine were not deterred and equalised three minutes into the second half. A low cross from the left connected with the right boot of St Augustine’s Mia Mitchell who clinically dispatched the chance she was gifted.

This was followed by another goal in the 75th minute by Ana Williams who connected with another low driven cross coming from the left flank.

In a post-game interview, St Augustine’s coach Desiree Sarjeant said, “Sometimes the score do not often reflect how the game was and today is a day like that.” She also noted, “Many of the girls who played were from the colleges’ leagues and a lot of them are young players who might have been playing at this level for the first time so it was a nice, competitive game for them.”

Team captain Rayana Boswell expressed feelings of frustration after the game but maintained that, “It was stressful but our conversations to each other was passion, we all good as ever now.” In other games in the First Division, Jewels FC’s Asha James netted from the penalty spot as they beat Sweaters Women Team 1-0 at the Mt Pleasant Ground in Tobago.

Unfortunately the game at New Settlement Ground between Mic- It St Ann’s Rangers B and Defence Force never game to fruition due to Rangers dropping out of the League.

On Saturday, in the Super League, high-flying Flow Sports Premier Real Dimension rolled passed Club Sando 9-2.

Petrotrin, who lost to Dimension last weekend, bounced back impressively with a 7-0 thumping of Queen’s Park.

On Sunday, Rangers and Tobago Chicas played to a 1-1 draw.
