THE 2019 local women’s football season will kick off today when TTWOLF (TT Women's League Football) hosts its seven-a-side tournament. The tournament is open to TTWOLF members only and will take place from 10 am to 6 pm at the Eddie Hart Ground in Tacarigua.
The event will be the first for the new TTWOLF executive, led by Susan Joseph-Warrick and is expected to attract a number of teams as it has in the past. Warrick urged fans, teams and players to come out in their numbers to show their support for women’s football.
“TTWOLF would like to encourage all supporters of women’s football to come out and show their support,” said Warrick. “Building the sport requires the entire football community, not just the TTWOLF executive, so as we focus on doing our part, we are looking forward to all stakeholders doing theirs and supporting us on this journey.”
The League itself is carded to begin on June 8 and Warrick explained that TTWOLF is working to raise the profile of the women’s game moving forward.
“Despite the challenges we are facing, we are working tenaciously to put things in place to ensure the league comes off successfully,” she said. “We believe that women’s football is still a sport loved by many and our history will show as much, we just have to give people something to believe in again.”
