After midfielder, Michael Carrington had put Black Rock in the lead with a bullet-header from six metres, both himself and Maxson Ramsey were sent off within seconds of each other.

Down to nine men and with 25 minutes to play, Phoenix poured forward against their wounded prey. Black Rock, however, tenaciously held on for the win.

Bethel United continued their excellent early-season form with similar 2-0 victories over Signal Hill and Lambeau F.C. while Black Rock also made it two victories in a row when they blanked Carnbee/Mt. Pleasant 2-0. Elsewhere, Golden Lane and Phoenix shared the points in an exciting 1-1 draw and whipping-boys Carnbee/Mt. Pleasant and Lambeau played out a goalless draw.

In the Eastern Conference, NLCB Mt. Grace stayed on top despite going under 3-0 to Leeds. Calder Hall stunned pre-match favourites Moriah Youths 3-2 and Youth Stars shut-out bottom of the table Goodwood United 2-0.

Moriah's lean run of form continued later in the week when they gave Goodwood their first point of the season after being held to a 1-1 draw.
