Beaten presidential candidate in the recent T&T Football Association’s general election, Richard Ferguson, is set to join forces with the new William Wallace-led administration in the area of finance.

Ferguson was knocked out in the first round of voting during the November 24 AGM before Wallace beat out then-incumbent David John-Williams for the TTFA presidency.

However, Guardian Media Sports has been reliably informed that Ferguson is now set yo play a key role in assisting with the financial concerns of the embattled football association. His first major assignment will reportedly be to provide funding for the new T-League structure which is scheduled come into effect next year as part of the TTFA’s developmental plans.

A reliable TTFA source who did not want to be named said the new T-League format will see the football association continuing the initiatives of the world governing body for football, FIFA and UEFA, from where the T-League initiative came from in the first place.

It is understood that the TTFA is set to reform a committee of members from the top-flight T&T Pro League and Super League teams and the TTFA that will have the mandate to shepherd in the new T-League, which will feature a tier 1 and tier 2 competition comparable with football in international leagues such as the Spanish La Liga, English Premier League and German Bundesliga among other competitions.

Contacted yesterday, however, Ferguson refused to either confirm or deny this development.

Ferguson, who is owner and managing director of the Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, was the principal sponsor of the Ascension Invitational Football League that was started because of the inactivity in local football. Ferguson, whose Rangers finished as runner-up in the just concluded First Citizens Cup last week, has been against the continuation of the T&T Pro League although his club is a member team.

Two months ago, Ferguson also tried to sponsor the T&T Pro League, promising to give clubs a part of the share from television rights. It is unsure when the new tournament (T-League) will get going but the TTFA board could decide when its first meeting is held on Saturday.
