RUSSELL LATAPY, Trinidad and Tobago senior men’s assistant coach, has joined AC Port of Spain Football Club in an advisory capacity.

Walt “Salty” Noreiga is still head coach, while Devin Elcock joins the coaching staff, having migrated from Defence Force where he was part of the former coaching staff under Lloyd Andrews.

However, last season’s champions have only just gotten back together, following a break, having participated in the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship series in September. “We just got the team back together and started a few days ago,” technical/sporting director Gilbert Bateau admitted, although he did not seem too perturbed.

“Except for Defence Force and maybe club Sando, most teams would have started late,” Bateau explained. “But it gives us a chance to catch up, in that we start against Eagles, as opposed to Defence Force starting the season against Police.”

The Capital Boys have lost key players John-Paul Rochford and Jameel Neptune, who have both moved to Central FC. But defender Robert Primus is back, having played with Police FC last season.

Still with talent such as league MVP Duane Muckette, Michael Poon-Angeron and Che Benny forming the midfield core, Bateau is confident of having another strong season. Asked what was the goal for AC Port of Spain this season, Bateau replied: “To win it again. ”Plain talk, bad manners.”
