JASMINE SAMPSON is hoping her involvement in the Trinidad and Tobago women football team can have a positive impact on the team’s chances of securing a place at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Sampson, who is the daughter of former TT youth and St Benedict’s College player Ivan Sampson, is now with the squad in Mexico City preparing for the November 8 playoff with Ecuador in Quito. She was a member of the TT team at the 2010 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup played in Trinidad and Tobago.

“The experience has been quite good so far,” Sampson said. “I’m happy to be back representing TT.

“I’m meeting girls in this team that I always heard so much about and it’s great to get a chance to play with them. The coaching staff is doing a good job with helping us adapt to the altitude change and getting us prepared for the games,” she added.

Sampson is one of a few players Randy Waldrum is having a look at for a possible selection on the final team to face Ecuador.

“I’m proud to be in contention for the squad and I think if we keep working hard, we will do well in the playoffs and make it to the World Cup,” added Sampson who is also a youth coach at Sampson’s Soccer Inc. which is owned by her father.

She earned a second-team All-America honours in 2010 and 2011 and for two years was captain and MVP for Seneca Valley. Sampson was selected to All-Gazette team in 2011.

The 20-year-old is currently a senior at Radford University, pursuing a career in Public Relations/Corporate Communica-tions. She is expected to graduate in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations.
