FORMER national women’s football team equipment manager Claire George passed away on Saturday. The 50-year-old lost her battle with cancer.

On Sunday, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) issued a statement expressing condolences to the late George’s family.

“The TT and Football Association appreciates Claire’s contribution to women’s football for over a decade. She remained steadfast in her devotion to the game and her work and dedication will be felt by us all for a long time to come,” the statement read.

George served as equipment manager for the senior and youth women’s national teams for over ten years and was also competitions secretary for the TT Women’s Football League (TTWOLF) for a similar period.

Chairman of the normalisation committee Robert Hadad expressed sadness on receiving the news of her death.

“It is with profound sorrow that we have learnt of the sad demise of Ms. Claire George, a woman who gave so much of her life to women’s football. We are deeply touched by this news and we pray that her soul will rest in perfect peace.

"We offer our condolences to the women’s football community and all those who would have interacted with and worked alongside Claire during her time in local football. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family,” Hadad said.

Former national women’s coach Randy Waldrum, who took charge of the “Women Soca Warriors” in mid-2014 and led the squad to the inaugural 2014 Caribbean title later that year, also expressed his condolences via a Facebook post.

“Thanks for sharing Yaya! Women’s football lost a great person and ambassador for our beautiful game yesterday,” he posted.

Waldrum also carried the senior women’s team to the 2014 Concacaf Championship semi-finals before falling to Ecuador in a two-legged playoff for a Canada 2015 World Cup berth.
