T&T Senior Soca Princesses captain, Maylee Attin-Johnson believes that more local women players have the potential to play professionally.

Attin-Johnson said she’s proud of the exploits of her fellow player Ahkeela “Darcel” Mollon, who plays professionally in Sweden and sees the possibility of several others, emulating Mollon.

“When you look at women footballers like Dernelle Mascall, Ayana Russell and Kennya Cordner and even Arin King they are as good as other women footballers in the world”, said Attin-Johnson.

Attin-Johnson, who spoke to the Trinidad Guardian before T&T’s second round match last night against Barbados the qualifying CFU Tournament.

“Once we are prepared to work hard and given the contacts available these days, once the opportunities present itself these players can all make it,” she added.

The 24-year-old, also has her sights on playing professionally, and though, two knee surgeries have made that dream a bit of a challenge, the aggressive striker is not giving up.

“I think it is important for us as young people to chase our dreams and work hard to make it a reality,” said Attin-Johnson, who has been on the senior women’s team since the age of 16.

“Football is what I do and while I have a career in sports management to fall back on, football is my first choice, says Maylee, who graduated from Kennesaw University in Atlanta, USA with a degree in Sports Management.
