Substitute Kayla Taylor netted twice as Trinidad and Tobago thrashed the Dominican Republic 6-1, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, to finish unbeaten in Group “A” as the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Girls (Under- 15) Invitational Tournament continued yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago will now meet Haiti in the second match of tomorrow’s semi-final double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, while Jamaica will oppose the Bahamas in the first clash.

A thunder-storm forced referee Kenville Holder to halt the TT-Dominican Republic game in the eighth minute, but immediately after the 10-minute delay, TT captain Rehana Omardeen got her right foot to the loose ball, in a goal-mouth scramble from Patrice Campbell’s inswinging right-sided corner, to put the hosts ahead.

A minute later (ninth), Holder was again forced to stop proceedings, this time for 11 minutes due to lightning strikes. Five minutes after the resumption of play, Campbell widened the lead, drilling a powerful left-footer to the left of goalkeeper Jillian Munoz after fellow striker Marlique Asson failed to control the ball on the run. Dominican Republic pulled one back through Yaquesi Nunez in the 36th, who slotted her left-footer beyond the advancing TT goalie Linfah Jones, but the hosts restored their two-goal cushion through Taylor and fellow reserve D’Jhavae Cipriani in the 64th, Taylor’s right-sided centre struck Cipriani’s back and rolled past the stranded Munoz.

Taylor got her name on the scoresheet in the 64 th, taking Campbell’s pass from an Omardeen free-kick and drilling a 20-metre blast to Munoz’s right; six minutes later, Taylor was played on by another sub Brittany Prescott and drove home a 15-metre right-footer.

Khadidra Debisette ended the rout four minutes from full-time (76th), tapping a left-footer into the open net after Cipriani, from a Prescott pass, collided with Munoz.

Earlier at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Bahamas took the runners-up spot in the group following a 4-0 thrashing of Anguilla, courtesy strikes from Shannon Hutton (26th), Mia Whylly (66th), Annisa Albury (75th) and Sophia Taylor (76th).

Jamaica secured top spot in Group “A” with a 3-0 whipping of Haiti at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Ground, St Augustine, with Tesla Caine (36th), Shenika Williams (46th) and Trudi Carter (76th) on target.
