Even Pellerud, coach of Trinidad and Tobago’s Under-17 women’s football team says he is quite pleased with the progress of the players.
“The girls are coming into their own, as a group I am pleased with how they have adjusted to a higher volume of training. I have upped the training from four sessions to seven sessions per week.

“The girls have shown discipline and commitment I am pleased with their progress in all levels, mental, physical and tactical,” he recently said.

Last week Pellerud resumed training with the Under-20 team at UWI.

Pellerud says that over 20 girls came out for training, and sessions will continue every Friday and Sunday at UWI in St Augustine.

The Director of Women’s Football believes that the female sport has been gaining popularity in TT.

“During the last game between the National U-17 team and the girls of Joe Public, I saw a change in audience attendance. The numbers were astounding, the crowd was vibrant, there was a rhythm section, the family section and the supporters. I think that the country understands that women’s football truly represents the saying ‘a beautiful game,” he said.

The U-17s are currently playing in the 2009/2010 WoLF season.
