Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 17 footballers have settled into camp at the official training centre of the Brazilian Football Federation and will face the Brazil National Under 17 Women’s team on Sunday at 9am (8am T&T time).
Both teams are preparing for the 2010 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup in September and while the big news in Brazil on Friday was the expected announcement of Fluminense boss Ramalho as the replacement for Dunga as the head coach for the Brazil Men's Team, the women's program is in full flow and the Samba girls are eying the top prize at the Women's World Cup.
Speaking on Friday after the team completed one of their six training sessions so far, Pellerud told TTFF Media: “It’s really wonderful to be here with the squad at the official training centre of the Brazilian Football Federation, the facilities are excellent and I can see the players really striving and flowering out of this experience.
The fields are excellent for football. Additionally I think this will go a long way to helping the players develop into high class individuals.”
While he would welcome a win for the T&T team, Pellerud, who has coached Canada to impression results on the world stage, is not simply looking for two wins on the tour.
“These two games will be a major boost to our preparations. We expect it will be very tough because Brazil are a world class team and we are in the process of trying to become world class.
And so these two games can only help us to achieve that. While we are concerned about results at this stage, my main concern is seeing how well the girls cope against this type of opposition which has that kind of style similar to what we will face in our first game against Chile on September 5,” Pellerud said.
