Coach of the Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 women’s football team Stefan De Four is pleased with the squad’s 13-0 thrashing of Dominica on Wednesday, in their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-17 Women’s First Round Group “A” qualifier at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.
Both teams will meet next Tuesday in Dominica while St Kitts/Nevis, the other team in the group, will face Trinidad and Tobago on October 2 and 5, with the group winner advancing to the Second Round.
In his analysis of Wednesday’s game, De Four said, “from what I saw, from what we played (on the day), I think what we’ve been practising and working on, we executed extremely well.
“It was a very good sight to see,” he added. “I didn’t have to do much coaching out there, they knew what they were about. They were up for it and I think they came out and played the way we’ve been playing. I was very pleased the way they played.”
The squad has been involved in the Lucky Bakery-sponsored National Women’s League but Wednesday’s result was the most goals they have netted this year.
De Four contented, “granted that this team weren’t too much of a technical team, the execution of how we scored the goals is exactly what we’ve been working on.
“When we get back to the Women’s League, it’s going to be a whole different game altogether,” he added.
The only addition to the team for the qualifiers was Canadian-born striker Diarra Simmons, who netted a pair of goals against the hapless visitors.
“I think she’s a presence on top and that’s exciting to have,” said the TT coach. “You always need a presence on top, with a player like (Anique) Walker who’s ‘flying’ underneath her.
“She needs more time to train with the team and she will get in sync with the team definitely.” Asked about improvements needed to the team, De Four responded, “we’re going to introduce a couple more players that’s coming in (from overseas).
“Khadisha Debesette will be coming back in the group and that’s going to give me the opportunity to strengthen the midfield again, and the back-line,” he continued.
“Its basically the same thing with me, but a little more work for these girls right now.”
