Cuba’s campaign for championship honours got off to a confident start, as the Women’s Under-20 team delivered a strong message to all rivals with a 7-2 victory over Grenada, in the first match of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Under-20 Finals at Waterhouse Mini-Stadium on Friday.
Scoring for Cuba were Allancy Arrebato Gainza in the 17th and 68th minutes, Yoanna Calderon Gonzanez in the 22nd, Roxana Galan Goicochea in the 24th, Aidachi Millan Marrero in the 81st, and Taida Bacallao Aguillar in the 87th minute.
Though Cherise Hood scored for Grenada in the 31st and 33rd minutes, her teammate Samantha McSween scored an own goal in the 54th minute.
In the second match of the doubleheader, Trinidad & Tobago took the maximum three points with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Anguilla.
Trinidad & Tobago took the lead with a goal from Shanisa Camejo in the 33rd minute, followed by a 42nd minute strike from Patrice Campbell to end the first half 2-0.
The Soca Princesses entered the second half with confidence and in the 48th minute, Captain Anique Walker hit the back of the net. The Anguillan team thereafter survived several attacks on goal, to end the game 3-0.
