Experienced striker Aveann Douglas has been named captain of the national Under-20 women’s team for the four-nation Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Women’s Final round qualifiers.

The five-day tournament which will be played at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar kicks off on Sunday and ends next Thursday.

Following an intense morning practice session at the tournament venue yesterday head coach, Jamaal Shabazz, selected his final 20-player squad which includes three US-based players.

Defenders Kia Rigsby and Katrina Meyer and striker Maylee Attin-Johnson are the three US-based players in a very talented team selected to compete against Jamaica, Haiti and Suriname.

Earlier this week Rigsby was declared fit and was expected to join up with the rest of the team last night.

Last week it was disclosed by women’s team manager Ricarda Nelson, that Rigsby who attends Florida International University and Stephanie De Sousa who attends High School in Miami would not be available for selection due to injury and school commitments respectively.

However, contacted yesterday, assistant coach Marlon Charles said that Rigsby would be joining the team.

De Sousa could have only played in two of the matches and it was decided by the technical staff to give the chance to another player.

Attin-Johnson of Cumberland University and University of South Carolina Upstate defender Katrina Meyer are already with the team.

The T&T girls will have most of today off before regrouping ahead of their live-in camp at Santa Magarita Hotel, St Augustine.

In its CFU final round opener, host T&T will come up against Jamaica in the second match of a double-header on Sunday from 6 pm. Two hours earlier, Haiti plays Suriname.

On Tuesday, Jamaica tackles Suriname from 5 pm and T&T faces Haiti at 7 pm, while on the final day, next Thursday, Jamaica battles Haiti from 5 pm and T&T meets Suriname at 7 pm.

The four teams will be competing for three places to the Concacaf final round qualification in January in Mexico.

There the three teams will compete with USA, Costa Rica and the host for three places to the next year’s Fifa Women’s U-20 World Championship in Russia.
