T&T's Under-20 Women’s footballers will face St Kitts/Nevis in a must-win second Group G match for both teams at the Concacaf Under-20 Women’s Championship, a qualifier for the 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.
The match kicks off at the Estadio Pan Americano in San Cristobal from 4 pm.
On Friday last, in their opener, T&T went under to El Salvador 3-0 while St Kitts/Nevis was also beaten 7-0 by Canada in the other match in the four-team pool and with three teams qualifying from each pool to the knockout stage, today's encounter will come as utmost importance to both Caribbean nations.
Following today's match, the Jason Spence-coached T&T young women meet Canada in their final match on Tuesday at the same venue from 7 pm, with St Kitts/Nevis facing El Salvador, three hours earlier at the same venue.
The team will then play St Kitts/Nevis on Sunday, and Canada on March 1 at the San Cristobal venue.
At the end of the round-robin phase, the top three teams in each pool will advance to the round-of-16 main draw where they will join the four qualifying round winners' Bermuda, Curacao, Suriname and Cayman Islands.
The knockout stage of the competition will all be played in a single match direct elimination format.
After the event, the champion, runner-up and third-place finisher will qualify for the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-20 in Costa Rica in August of 2022.
The three teams from the region that will have qualified for the Women’s Under-20 World Cup will join the host nation, Costa Rica, giving Concacaf four participating teams in the tournament.
The USA is the current champion (sixth title overall) of the CWU20 after defeating Mexico 4-1 in the 2020 Final.
