Despite facing an improbable task of progressing at the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championships in the Dominican Republic, T&T midfielder and captain Maria-Frances Serrant believes that communication and unity will be key attributes in their next match.
The Soca Princesses face the might of Canada in their final match on Tuesday night at the Estadio Panamerican in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic, from 7 pm needing to be among the top three teams to advance out of the group.
They now lay bottom of the standing in Group A with no points after two matches and a goal difference of -8, following defeats by El Salvador 0-3 and St Kitts/Nevis 2-7. It means the Soca Princesses will have to win by some four goals and depend on the result of the St Kitts/Nevis and El Salvador encounter.
According to Serrant: " I think we need to go out there and really do our best. It's all out on the field because it's only one more game." The T&T team is being coached by Jason Spence who has had very little time to prepare.
Under then-coach Richard Hood the team reached the quarterfinal of the competition, but the chances of this happening seem incredibly slim, considering their counterparts today. The Canadians lead the group with a maximum of six points in two matches, featuring a 7-0 triumph over St Kitts/Nevis in their opening match last Friday, after which they clobbered El Salvador 4-0.
The El Salvadorians are second on the standings with 3 points and a goal difference of -1. They lead St Kitts/Nevis, three points, by goal difference.
