Petrotrin Palo Seco closed the Southern Football Association’s (SFA) Petrotrin Super League Big-Six competition with a perfect five wins in as many matches, yesterday, when the team took a 3-2 win over its nearest challenger, the University of T&T (UTT) to book a spot in the Champion of Champions qualification tournament for the National Super League.
Palo Seco, which won the Executive Cup last Thursday following a narrow 1-0 victory over the same UTT, courtesy of an 86th minute goal from Mikel Charles, went on to capture its third title for the season, and the most important.
Yesterday’s victory was recorded after a first-half goal from Charles, an effort on the hour-mark from Brent Garcia and the match-winner in the 87th from Jamaal Ayres. UTT’s Keron Doldron, who has been in fine form scored a second-half brace in a losing effort.
The undisputed champion club of the SFA, led by former T&T Pro League coach Dexter Cyrus, finished the Big-Six competition without dropping a point, while scoring 39 goals in the five fixtures.
Playing simultaneously, Penal All Stars, which was out of the challenge for the title two match-days ago, handed Point Fortin Civic FC a 6-2 whipping, while Marabella Family CC recorded a default 3-0 win over a no-show Big-Dreams United.
