The champions of the Eastern Football Association (EFA) Big-Four competition could well be decided by its Referee’s Association.

This after a clash between WASA FC and Heights United at WASA Ground, St Joseph on Saturday only lasted 72 of the regulation stipulated 90 minutes, forcing both teams management to lodge an official complaint with the EFA’s executive.

At the time the match was halted, host WASA FC held a comfortable 2-0 lead over the EFA FA trophy runner-up, with the latter needing a draw or to lose by less than three goals to take the title.

Contacted for comment, EFA President, Linus Sanchez confirmed that the final outcome of the match will be taken after a meeting is held by the Referee’s Association which is in possession of written complaints from both clubs involved.

Should the match resume where it was halted then WASA, currently third on the table with three points from two matches will need to get another goal while blanking its opponent to grab the title on goal-difference.

On Tuesday night at Eddie Hart Ground, Tunapuna, SKHY FC also kept its chances of lifting the crown alive with a 1-0 defeat of WASA FC thanks to a 22nd minute strike from Shamar De Gannes while Heights United made it two-wins from two completed matches, without even breaking a sweat as scheduled opponent BM Spurs, the zone’s FA winners for a second straight season failed to show for a third straight match.
