Darren Alexis netted a hat-trick as Erin FC held off Giants FC 3-2 to lift the 2017 Southern Football Association League Cup title at Barrackpore Recreation Ground, Barrackpore on Wednesday night.
Alexis opened the scoring for Erin FC only for Jeremy Primus to level the contest before the interval as both teams went into the break level.
On the resumption, Erin FC was first to strike, with Aleix on target again, but Primus also netted a second for Giants FC to tie up the clash at 2-2 before Alexis fired in the decisive item ten minutes from full-time, completing his hat-trick in the process.
With the win, Erin Fc stayed in contention to capture two titles in the SFA this season as it is currently level with seven points each with Giants FC atop the SFA Premier Division “Big-Six” table which resumes on Sunday with Round Four matches.
The trio defending league champions Pitchmen FC, Giants FC and Barrackpore are also still in the mix to win two SFA crowns this season as apart from the Big-Six, they are all through to the quarterfinals of the Executive Cup.
