Valtrin United stayed on course for a third title in the Eastern Football Association when it whipped St John’s United 4–1 in the Emerald Apartments and Plaza Cup quarterfinal at the NUGFW Ground, on Saturday.
Dwight Crichlow led the way for Valtrin, winners of the Premier Division League and FA Trophy, with two goals in the 15th and 53rd minute after Clevon George opened the scoring in the fifth minute.
Kazim Danjinmah reduced the deficit for St John’s in the 54th minute, but any hopes of a late comeback was dashed when Kenan Osbourne fired in another for Valtrin, in the 72nd minute to set up a semifinal clash with Joe Public tomorrow at the same venue from 4 pm.
Joe Public, which like Valtrin was involved in T&T Football Federation FA competition quarterfinal action last night (Monday), crushed Athletico Sports Institute 3–0 with Kevorn Cornwall scoring all three goals.
In tomorrow’s other semifinal, Maloney Academy FC and Real Maracas will meet at Maloney after contrasting wins.
Former national defender Shurland Davis banged in a double (30th & 70th) for Maloney to beat Prisons 3-1. Manu John got the opener for Maloney in the 17th minute, while Hasely Collette netted an 87th minute consolation for Prisons.
Real Maracas needed kicks from the penalty-spot to beat last year’s winner, WASA 5-4 after a 2-2 draw in regulation-time. The winners of tomorrow’s matches will face off in the final on December 12.
