Akil Millington banged in a late double to cap off Harlem Strikers’ 4-1 whipping of Strugglers at Frederick Settlement, Caroni on Sunday to climb to second spot in the Central Football Association Premier League.
Phillip Wickham opened the scoring for former league champion Strikers in the 12th minute which it carried into the interval.
Seven minutes after the restart, former Guyanese international Carey Harris netted for the second straight match for Strikers to double its lead. Ten minutes before the final whistle, however, Neon O’Garro pulled a goal back for Strugglers to give his team hope of salvaging a late draw.
But it was not to be as Millington then found the net in the 89th and 90th minute to seal all three points for Strikers, pushing its season tally to 11 from five matches, two behind leader Caroni Samba which has played a match more.
Also on Sunday, St Mary’s United missed a chance to join Strikers in second spot after a 1-0 loss to Las Lomas United in the first match at Caroni.
Kareem Beckles got the decisive goal for Las Lomas, now seventh on the 13-team table with seven points, the same as Perseverance Ball Players, but with a superior goal difference.
