T&T scored an emphatic 11-0 victory over Grenada in the opening match of the CFU leg Concacaf U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament, on Wednesday at the Mindoo Phillip ground in Castries, St Lucia.
Diminutive Tobago striker Kennya Cordner scored seven goals while skipper Aveann Douglas (four) and American born Stephanie De Sousa (one) were also on the scoreboard.
Cordner netted four goals in the first half and Douglas (two) to give T&T a 6-0 first half lead.
Thrilling the large crowd with their passing and attacking skills, Dernelle Mascall and Douglas controlled the middle of the field for T&T.
In the second half, T&T continued their dominance with Cordner scoring three more goals and Douglas, one, while DeSousa opened her account for T&T with a 51st minute item.
In the second match of the double header, host nation St Lucia whipped St Vincent 4-1 after a goalless first half. The St Vincent & the Grenadines team is coached by former T&T national men’s coach Zoran Vranes.
T&T meets St Vincent and the Grenadines today at the Mindoo Phillip Park from 5 pm followed by St Lucia vs Grenada at 7.30 pm.
The winner of this group joins the winner of four other Caribbean groups to decide the champion team of CFU and who goes to the final leg of the Concacaf U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament.
