Veteran striker Devorn Jorsling was among the goals once more as Defence Force overcame FC Santa Rosa when matches in the Ascension Invitational Football Tournament Division One table continued on Sunday.
Before a crowd of close to 500 spectators, Jorsling, the T&T Pro League all-time leading scorer with 160-plus goals, capped off a dominant first-half by converting a penalty kick at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo, after Jameel Cooper was fouled in the 18-yard box.
Three minutes into the second half, Jerome Mc Intyre doubled the lead for the "Teteron Men" from close range while Darius Ollivierra hammered home the third item in the 75th minute before Osei Sandy got a consolation item for Santa Rosa, with the 'Goal of the Match' side foot volleying in a well-flighted free-kick in mid-air.
The win kept Defence Force ahead on the 12-team table with 22 points, one ahead of Morvant Caledonia AIA, who edged host Guaya United 2-1 at Guaya Recreation Ground, Guaya.
Sheldon Holder got the opener for Morvant Caledonia in the 11th, but Ronald Mc Intosh drew Guaya level in the 25th, only for Kerry Daniel to net the decisive item in the 50th minute from the penalty spot to hand Morvant Caledonia a seventh straight win ahead of their meeting with Terminix La Horquetta Rangers on Wednesday at La Horquetta from 6 pm.
Third-placed Jabloteh stayed in the hunt courtesy a 3-1 defeat of Matura ReUnited at Matura Recreation Ground to improve to 15 points from seven matches, while Cunupia FC trounced Prisons Service 4-0 at Malabar to keep hold of the fourth spot, thanks to a treble from Kevon "Showtime" Woodley to up his league-best tally to nine, three more than Jorsling, and Police and Queen's Park Cricket Club drew 1-1 in the opening match at Mucurapo.
Deportivo blast Bethel behind Kesae beaver
Jeremiah Kesar ended Deportivo P.F two-match winless streak in style by scoring a beaver trick in their come-from-behind 7-2 trashing of Bethel United at Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin.
The visitors went ahead as early as the sixth minute through Andel Noray, but Aden Noel (23rd and 42nd), and Kesar (37th) got replies for Deportivo to take a 3-1 lead at the break in front their home supporters.
Noray again got the goal to start the second half, and cut the deficit to 2-3, but like the first half, the hosts responded grandly with Akeem Redhead (69th), making it 4-2 followed by three more strikes from Kesar in the 70th, 75th, and 87th to up his season tally to nine goals, level with team-mate Andrei Pacheco.
Deportivo is also level at the top of the table with San Fernando Giants with 19 points, but while the Pt Fortin-based club has played eight matches, Giants have played seven after their scheduled meeting with RSSR at Curepe Recreation Ground, did not come off.
The University of T&T are only a point off the lead after a 1-0 triumph against Erin FC at Erin via Che Benny's 40th-minute effort
