Two freshmen members of the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team recently received accolades by the Sooner Athletic Conference.

John-Ramses Thomas was honored as Goalkeeper of the Year and earned All-Conference first team recognition, while forward Jevaughn Vance was selected to the conference's second team.

"I am really proud of John and Jevaughn for earning the school's first All-SAC awards," said Pioneer coach Jamath Shoffner.  "They both had a fantastic year.  John kept us in every game this season by coming up with big saves in crucial situations.  Jevaughn was very dangerous going forward this year and really picked up his play as the SAC schedule unfolded."

Thomas led the league in saves with 5.81 per game, he was also fourth in goals against with a 1.33 per game average.  Vance led the Pioneers in goals with a school-record eight.  He also posted a team-high 2.82 shots a game with 1.2 on goal.

Shoffner added, " As both of these players are freshman I expect big things from them in the future. These awards will allow them and our team to be more motivated to work even harder this off-season, so we can be prepared for the challenges of the SAC.  These awards are reflective of the collective effort the team gave throughout the season."

The Wayland men made the postseason tournament for the first time in program history in 2011 with a school-record seven wins, four in the SAC.
