Former Trinidad and Tobago invitee Kyle Bethel received national recognition on Monday, by being named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
Bethel and teammate John Timm were also named Summit League Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, by the league office on Monday, while Bethel also picked up Summit League Player of the Week honors from CollegeSportsMadness.com.
Bethel dished out three assists to lead Oakland in a 4-0 win at Detroit on Wednesday. He followed that effort with a goal and an assist against IUPUI to help Oakland remain at the top of The Summit League standings. With 10 assists, Bethel leads the nation in assists and assist per-game.
After collecting six points this week, Bethel is now No. 22 in the nation and tied for The Summit League lead with 18 points. It was the first time that the senior from Howell, N.J. has earned league player of the week honors.
While the Oakland offense continued its torrid start to the year, Timm started every game for an OU defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts. Over the 180 minutes of action, the Golden Grizzlies allowed just 10 shots on goal and no goals.
In addition to his solid work at the back, Timm also picked up an assist on Bethel's goal at IUPUI.It was the second time that Timm, a senior defender from Clarkston, Mich. and team captain, has won the league's weekly defensive award.
The Golden Grizzlies have now won five straight matches and are a perfect 3-0 in Summit League play. The team is back in action on Tuesday with a match at Michigan kicking off at 7 p.m.
