For the third time in four weeks, Wayland Baptist goalkeeper John-Ramses Thomas has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer.
Thomas, a junior from Plymouth, Tobago, turned away six shots in a pair of WBU wins last week over St. Gregory's University and John Brown University. He had three saves in a 3-0 shutout over St. Gregory's and three more in a 3-2 road win against John Brown. Thomas' latest shutout gives him eight on the season.
The No. 13 Pioneers (11-2-1, 6-1 SAC) play their final two regular-season home matches this week as part of doubleheaders with the WBU women. WBU hosts #19 Texas Wesleyan (9-4-1, 3-3 at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Oklahoma Baptist at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the women playing at 5 and 1 p.m. WBU travels to Bethany, Okla., to take on Southwestern Christian on Nov. 2 to end the regular-season.
The SAC Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 14-20 is Mid-America Christian's Raphael Bonelle. A junior midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bonelle scored three goals in MACU's 3-1 win over No. 19 Texas Wesleyan). The Evangels were 1-1 on the week. Bonelle has a conference-leading 13 goals on the season, breaking his own single-season school record of 10.
