West Texas A&M’s Khadidra Debesette became the first women’s soccer player in school history to score four goals in a match while tying the school record for most points in a match with eight, leading WT past Texas A&M-International 8-0 Monday afternoon at The Pitch at Buffalo Sports Park.
Debesette scored a hat-trick in the first half before adding another in the second half.
“It’s a good day when you score eight goals against any team,” WT head coach Chad Webb said. “In the past 48 hours, we have focused a lot on gaining that composure in front of the goal and finishing those chances.”
“Scoring goals in soccer is difficult as it is already. This is only Khadidra’s fourth game to play for us, because she was a late arrival. If you get more than one goal in a game is special enough. What was neat to see is she scored every type of goal. She had one with a shot on goal, one on a rebound and another on a cross pass. It was a special day for her and we hope she can continue to play at this level.”
The Lady Buffs improve their record to 4-4-0 and the Dustdevils fall to 1-7-0 on the season.
WT jumps back into Lone Star Conference play on the road at No. 7 Angelo State will Friday at 7 p.m. in San Angelo.
